How to reduce your risk of diabetes

Simple lifestyle changes to reduce your risk of diabetes.

Diabetes is a significant health issue in Australia and is on the rise. By 2025 it is estimated that 3 million Australians over 25 will have diabetes. With 280 new cases of type 2 diabetes diagnosed every day, it is important to be aware of the risk factors and understand what we can do to prevent diabetes.

We asked Dr Cindy Pan to explain how excess weight, low physical activity and a family history increases our risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and what we can do to prevent or reduce this risk.

Outlining how a combination of healthy eating, daily exercise and a healthy body weight can prevent 60% of type 2 diabetes cases, Dr Cindy Pan reminds us that there is much in our control to live a diabetes free life.

Diabetes Week is an important time to review our health and understanding of this growing issue. For more expert advice, MedDr Cindy Pan talks about the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes and what you can do to help reduce your risk.
