Tasmania in spring

Springtime in Tassie: a calendar packed full of colourful festivals and special events.

Bloomin’ Tulips Festival

11 October, 2014, Wynyard

It’s tulip season on the north west coast – and what better way to celebrate than the Bloomin’ Tulips Festival. Table Cape, the volcanic plateau sheltering Wynyard from the strait, produces some of the world’s best tulips, with bulbs exported as far as the Netherlands. Over three weeks, the coastal town comes into full colour with markets, film screenings, tulip farm tours and other special events celebrating the beauty of spring. Then on 11 October it’s festival day, with a Colour Run, live music, carousel rides, tulip-throwing competitions, fireworks over the Inglis River and much more.

Raw Challenge

25 October 2014, Old Beach, Hobart

Fancy yourself the active adventure type? Get ready to get muddy and take on the Raw Challenge, an 8-km obstacle-race through the legendary Baskerville Raceway in Hobart’s northern suburbs. Anyone who is game is invited to put their strength, stamina and agility to the test in this fun but gruelling challenge. Clamber over dirt mounds, slosh through water pits, swing across monkey bars, fly on a trapeze, make your way through a rope maze – and that’s just the beginning. Family-friendly activities are on throughout the day, so whether you’re a challenger or a spectator there’s plenty of festivity to keep you entertained.
